Do I need a EMDECS system to run this software?

Short Answer: Yes!

Why? The Mobile Repair Order software is designed to be an add-on module to your existing system. When technicians are in the field, they don't need access to the contract rates, costs or other pricing type of information. They're in the field to get a job done. The back office can then review the order, and fix any spelling or grammar issues, double-check that all parts have been issued before getting the invoice to the customer. Since some one checks the in-house repair orders before they become invoices, we should put the mobile repairs under the same process.

Why can’t I use the same sign-in for multiple service Technicians?

In order to provide the simplicity of creating a repair order, adding activities, re-starting Work-In-Progress, starting time with one click, viewing timesheets, etc. we need to know who the technician is. How we know is based on the user that signs-in. We hope you love the way we make it easy to sign-in and the 5-minutes it takes to make you an expert on this add-on module.

What does Real-time mean?

If some one on the back office system makes a change to a Repair Order that is assigned to a service technician, as soon as they save their change with F10, the service technician can refresh and see the changes made on Connect. The same is true when the service technician on the Mobile Repair Order makes changes to the repair order, the service manager on Connect can refresh and see the changes immediately. This way a service manager can fix a job while freeing the mobile technician to continue their work.

Does the program work on the iPad or iPhone?

Short Answer: Not yet.

The software will work on a PC and a Mac, but currently does not work on the iPad or iPhone. However, we are diligently working on getting this software to work on both the iPad and iPhone, and will be providing updates on our work. We want to get the software running well on PCs and Mac before we tackle the iPad or iPhone.

What browser do I need?

As long as you can run IE7, IE8, FF3.x or Safari 4.x, you can run the Mobile Repair Order add-on Module. Mac users, we’re listening.

What connection do I need?

When in the field, any 3G mobile Air-Card or tethered Cell phone will work. It also works on a WiFi connection.

Do I need to have a tablet PC?

Short answer: No.

Why? The reason for a tablet PC is to make it easier to capture a signature. You can also capture a signature with a product like a Wacom tablet as well. Just make sure the Wacom tablet will work with your computer and operating system.

Does the product work if the network connection is down?

Short answer: No.

Why? Because of the real-time interaction between the Mobile Repair Order and your Connect system, real-time access is required to pick up any changes made by the service manager or the mobile Technician. If you need off-line synchronization, we’re sorry, but this product will not work for you.

Can I invoice the customer from this software?

Short Answer: No.

Why? Because of how service managers like to review Repair Orders to fix spelling / grammar, add missing parts, etc. the invoicing function is restricted to being done on the back office side. Having said that, you can configure an email to notify the customer that work on the unit has been completed. In addition, you can’t add parts or new units either from this software either. Our security is very strict.

How do I setup the PMs, Service Reminders and Service Programs so that they show on the Mobile Repair Order screen?

Can I get the Mobile Repair Order Add-on in a language other than English?

Currently, the Mobile Repair Order add-on module is only available in Canada and the US. We are diligently working on getting the software localized for use in Europe and Mexico. We’ll have an announcement on availability soon.

Can I use my own icons?

Short Answer: Not Yet.

What we are working on is a library of icons to help make it easy to identify the button that you're looking for. If there are recommendations for better icons, we're all ears. What we'd ask for is a picture of what you have in mind, and our art group can take a look to see how we could create an icon to represent the service.
